Open Volunteer positions for the 2009 Light at the End of the Tunnel marathon
Putting on even a small marathon such as the Light at the End of the Tunnel requires a lot of work on race day, much of which is done by volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please email race director Brian Pendleton.
Volunteer positions open for the 2009 Light at the End of the Tunnel marathon include:
- Checkin support 2 people at Start/Finish area, Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area, I-90 exit 32
- Two volunteers needed 6AM-8AM
- Set up checkin tables
- Check in runners, hand out bibs and drop bags
- Assist with marking and recording bib numbers for runners in each wave
- Staff Turnaround aid station 1-2 people, 8:30AM-12:30PM at Garcia crossing, exit 38 off I-90 E of North Bend
- Dispense water, Gatorade and gel to runners
- Dispense minor first aid supplies (vaseline, band-aids, electrolyte capsules) to runners upon request
- Mix additional Gatorade if needed
- Vehicle needed. Cell phone helpful
- Steep rough gravel access road for 2 miles to Garcia crossing - 2WD adequate.
- Bicycle up Iron Horse trail 4 miles from Garcia crossing to turnaround.
- May be able to arrange transportation for volunteer(s) w/o vehicle
- Staff Garcia aid station 1-2 people, 8AM-1:30PM at Garcia crossing, exit 38 off I-90 E of North Bend
- Dispense water, Gatorade and gel to runners
- Dispense minor first aid supplies (vaseline, band-aids, electrolyte capsules) to runners upon request
- Mix additional Gatorade if needed
- After last runner, drive aid station materials back to finish area
- Vehicle needed. Cell phone helpful
- Steep rough gravel access road for 2 miles - 2WD adequate.
- May be able to arrange transportation for volunteer(s) w/o vehicle
- Staff Twin Falls aid station 1-2 people, 7:30AM-2:30PM at Twin Falls access point off I-90 exit 38 off I-90 E of North Bend
- Dispense water, Gatorade and gel to runners
- Dispense minor first aid supplies (vaseline, band-aids, electrolyte capsules) to runners upon request
- Mix additional Gatorade if needed
- After last runner, drive aid station materials back to finish area
- Vehicle needed. Cell phone helpful
- Transportation from and back to start/finish area available for volunteer(s) w/o vehicle
- Timing 2 people at Start/Finish area
- Finish area timing volunteers needed 10AM to 3PM
- Coordinate with checkin volunteers to start clocks at 7AM.
- Record times and sequence of finisher bib numbers on timing sheets
- Finish support 3 people at Start/Finish area, Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area, I-90 exit 32
- One volunteer needed 7AM-12PM
- One volunteer needed 9AM-2PM.
- One volunteer needed 11AM-4PM.
- Hand out runner flashlight bags and drop bags
- Hand out runner T-shirts
- Hand out runner medals
- Prepare and dispense finish area food and lunch (chili, corn bread, salad, bars, chips, drinks etc)
- Assist with recording runner finishing times
- Shuttle runners who parked at the start, back to their cars
- Roving course marshall 1-2 people, 8AM-3PM, marathon course on bicycle
- Bicycle up the course from Rattlesnake Lake, check on runners and aid stations
- Notify aid station staff when last runner will be passing the aid station
- Dispense gel and minor first aid supplies (vaseline, band-aids, electrolyte capsules) to runners upon request
- Call race director to report any problems.
- Bicycle and cell phone needed.
- Estimated 15-30 total riding miles.
