Day 1 of the Tahoe Triple marathon runs down from the Emerald Bay overlook, along the commercial strip of South Lake Tahoe CA, behind the casinos of Stateline NV and north along the lake to finish with a 4 mile, 700' hillclimb on busy highway 50. Great scenery but lots of traffic for most of the course. Aid was somewhat sporadic but adequate thanks to Barefoot Todd's assistance. Beautiful weather, cool and sunny. I took my time on the first half and finished in 4:55 overall.

Not easy to walk when the legs are nearly numb. I dried off with an old towel I found on the rocks, then spent the next hour shivering. Felt great and ran much better on day 2 than day 1 though, so maybe the cold soak helps.

Steve was first in and last out, not counting the geese, who look a lot more comfortable in the lake than he does.

The longer we hung out at the shore, the more ducks and geese showed up. They were disappointed that we had nothing to offer them.

This California gull has figured out that marathoners are not a good source of handouts and is about to move on to better prospects.
