Yard bird photos, September, 2009
Yard bird photos from September. Aphids in the poplars and ripe berries on the dogwood concentrated the birds providing decent range for my 300 f4, which proved to be quite a sharp lens at f5.6 and shutter speeds above 1/400. Woodpeckers, thrushes and waxwings stripped the dogwood of its red berries during the second week of September. Orange-crowned, Yellow and Black-throated Gray warblers moved through around the 10th. I saw only one or two Townsend's and no Wilson's; perhaps they head south a little earlier. Yellow-rumped Warblers are a little later, passing through during the third and fourth weeks of September.
