I am walking up wooden stairs with my arm around my wife or girlfriend who is quite a bit shorter
and younger than I am and is wearing a brown sweater. I realize that she is not Darchelle and am
confused when I remember that I am married to Darchelle. She tells me that she will not be with me
forever because she wants to have children, but I am okay with that because I am dying, and I think
I tell her that. We passed a tall young man who is standing on one side of the stairway and he
grabs my wife by her breasts, reaching from behind her, but that seems to be okay with both her and
me. Perhaps she will get together with him, I think.
We reach a landing where the stairway turns left and ascend a few more steps to the top of the
staircase. While we are standing there, two women across the hallway from us are nuzzling each
other. They are in middle age, rather tall, slender and attractive. I assume they are partners. A
young man comes up to us and offers us something like hors d'oeuvres from a round tray. Then the
young man who had grabbed my wife by the breasts comes up to the landing below us and begins talking
with us. He is affable and attractive, quite tall with a round face topped by an unruly wave of
orange hair. I feel a sense of relief that he seems to be a good person.
The young woman who is my wife in the dream reminds me of Caitlin, cheerful and upbeat with an
innocence about her. The tall young man who grabbed her reminds me very much of a grown-up version
of my nephew Judah. The two women who are partners reminded me of my therapist, and also of women
who partner with another woman after leaving a perhaps abusive heterosexual marriage. Overall I
think the dream seeks to resolve concerns about how Darchelle will fare after I die.
