Mid-Mountain Marathon, Park City UT, September 8, 2007
I ran the Mid-Mountain Marathon in Park City UT the day after hiking out from 5 days backpacking in the Wind River Range in Wyoming. My lower left shin got sore during the hike out and became even more sore during the second half of the marathon, which ironically probably caused me to run faster to get the race over with. I fell twice on the trail early in the race, first time I've done that. After two falls I stopped looking at the scenery and focused on my footing, figuring I would hurt myself if I fell any more. It was a good trail run despite being a little tougher than I expected. Well-supported, beautiful scenery, good company.

Early on the course. Although advertised as flat, the course gained 1800' and lost about 3000' of elevation overall.

Another ski slope. Some were so steep as to almost make me dizzy looking down them. They always seem steeper without snow.

I ran with this woman for about 10 miles. We both fell around mile 5, she first, then I. I fell again within a mile or two, sprained my left pinkie. She fell again around mile 11, slowed down after that. I met her again at the finish briefly; we agreed that it had been helpful to run together.
