The floor of the canyon changes with each major flood as indicated by this remnant of an older floor ten feet above the current canyon floor. It appears that the canyon was carved out, then filled up with sand and rock, then eroded out again.

Lower Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in red sandstone just east of Page AZ on the Navajo reservation. It is possibly the most beautiful quarter mile walk in the world. Unlike most landscapes, this one is actually more beautiful in photos than in person, perhaps because the eye adjusts to the intense colors of light reflecting off the rock while the camera does not. Daniel and I spent two hours in the canyon taking pictures continually. Recovering from a fever the day before, he spent the rest of the afternoon in bed but while he was in Antelope Canyon, he completely forgot that he didn't feel well.
