Lena Lake overnight backpack trip, Aug 5-6, 2010
Jeff and I explored the area around Lena Lake on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington for a couple days in early August. We hiked up to the lake then continued up the Valley of the Silent Men through old deep forest to the Brothers base camp. We followed the climbers path up to about 3600' on South Brother then turned back due to thunder and rain, making camp along the stream just above where it disappears into the ground. The next day we hiked up to Upper Lena Lake, ate lunch, went for a very brief swim in the ice-covered lake, hiked up over the snow to Milk Lake, then all the way back out to the car. Magnificent forest with big cedars, Douglas firs and hemlocks everywhere above Lena Lake, and colorful flowers in the avalanche chutes below Upper Lena Lake.

Magnificent forest with big cedars, Douglas firs and hemlocks everywhere above Lena Lake, and colorful flowers in the avalanche chutes below Upper Lena Lake.
