Slides from November 1973 walking in Slovenia and climbing Prisojnik in the Julian Alps
In November 1973 Tim and I walked from northern Italy into Yugoslavia and headed for the nearest mountain, Prisojnik, a limestone peak just a few kilometers south of the village of Kranjska Gora. An Austrian couple picked us up along the road, drove us up to Vrsic Pass and guided us up the mountain, a scrambling assent involving iron rungs bolted into the rock. After spending the night at an inn below the pass I recall eating kasha for breakfast and Tim recalls that the Austrian couple paid for our stay. Over the next few days we walked through villages, visited a cave, slept out under chestnut trees and sampled local slivovitz.
