Yard bird photos, Winter 2008-2009
Assorted photographs of birds in our yard between December 2008 and March 2009. Highlights of the winter were a visiting White-throated Sparrow and a flock of grosbeaks which became increasingly tolerant of my picture-taking as the season progressed. A solitary Golden-crowned Kinglet also spent the winter on our property, nimbly dodging larger company at the suet feeders. We had snow on the ground for nearly a month, an unusually long time. Spring population of Bewick's wrens is much diminished as a consequence.
Dark-eyed Junco in vine maple. We had a flock of up to 30, maybe more, variously colored "Oregon" juncos around all winter. One or two pairs will nest here this summer.
