Pyramid Lake, an alkaline lake which is the ultimate destination of the Lake Tahoe drainage. The Truckee River exits Lake Tahoe at Tahoe City and runs through Reno before flowing into Pyramid Lake, from which there is no exit. Big Lahontan Cutthroat trout were native to both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake with fish as large as 50lbs. Although both populations went extinct decades ago they have been reintroduced and now support a fishery in Pyramid Lake. Competition from introduced trout species is hampering their recovery in Lake Tahoe.
