Timberline Marathon, Mt Hood OR, September 15, 2007
Susan and I stayed at Timberline Lodge the night before the marathon. In the morning we walked about a bit after sunrise then returned to the lodge to eat breakfast and get ready for the race. The race began at 8:30. I ran slowly at first, stopping to take pictures, then picked up the pace and reached Barlow Pass, 5.5 miles, in 47 minutes. Ran the rest of the course, up and down mostly through old-growth forest on the Pacific Crest trail, at about 10 min/mile, managed to finish 4th in the 50-54 age group in 4:21 something. Soaked my legs in the headwaters of the North Fork of the Clackamas river for 15 minutes then shivered in the sun for an hour, unaware that Susan was parked along the road just above the finish line, waiting for me. We had a nice visit with Jeff, Sara and Uncle Bill in Portland on the way home.
