Like Lower Antelope, Upper Antelope is not much of a hike but the upper canyon is deeper, darker and more spacious inside than the lower. Dark walls accentuate the intense colors of the light overhead, hot yellow and orange; gaps allow orange, red and magenta to pour down into the caverns below where knots of photographers fiddle with tripods and exposures as guides point out cute formations with names like the Chief and the Shark. "Stand here and aim your camera there", they say, and so we do, but we'd rather be left alone to capture our own memories of a stunning place.
